You see...We see

Learning looks different to every individual.  We all learn at different paces and through different means.  Some girls learn by listening and observing and some girls learn by touching and experimenting.  We try to provide our girls with many opportunities to learn in the way that complements their personal learning style.  Because of this, the learning in our classroom may not always be obvious.

When you see playing with blocks....

We see girls exploring balance, working with peers, facing disappointments, and exploring cause and effect.

When you see dramatic play....

We see how the girls apply prior knowledge to new situations, we see them expanding their vocabulary and language skills and developing a positive self image.

Playtime is precious.  Play builds brain pathways for thinking, creativity, flexibility, empathy and many other lifelong skills.  -Heather Shumaker

You see playing in the sensory table....

We see exploring properties of matter, experimenting with stages of empty and full and broadening understanding of weights and measure.

You see playing with clay....

We see the strengthening of fine motor skills, developing imagination and creativity and the application of prior knowledge translated into art.

We see storytelling that allows the girls to incorporate mathematic skills, build vocabulary and oral skills, practice sharing and building self-confidence through successes.

There were 6 rabbits, 4 pigs, 7 ducks and sheep and 5 horses and cows. There were 22 animals. They are at a celebration at the park. They are excited to play in the mud and in the pond!
-Becca

There were 6 frogs at the pond. Two of them got in a fight and they left. Then there were 4 nice frogs left. They had fun playing together.

We are alike....we are different

This week we have been discussing ourselves and our families.  We have talked about how we are all different but yet we are all the same.  Our differences are what make us special!

“The things that make me different are the things that make me.” – Winnie The Pooh

The girls were asked "What do you notice?" about themselves last week. Each girl observed her face, drew a black pen sketch then used watercolor to highlight her features.

My eyes and my hair are the same color!- Brianne

We have started discussing the concept of graphing in math so we thought it would be fun to graph our hair color!

We have the same number (of girls) with blonde hair and brown hair! They are equal!

Maggie Kate and Ellen both have curly hair!

I am kinda the same tall as Carrington!- Nora Cait

I am the tallest because I am the biggest.  -Emilia

In our Math center this week, we did some measuring.  They girls even got a chance to measure themselves and compare their heights.  This gave us some practice using the terminology more, less and equal.  We used these same words with our graphs too!
