Throughout the fall, the girls began to notice how some of the trees began changing colors and losing their leaves while others did not, We began talking about why this was happening and doing some of our own research. We watched videos and read books about trees. We learned about the parts of the tree and who lives in the trees. We discovered there were two types of trees. Trees that lose all of their leaves and trees that stay green all year.
Each day as we walked around the campus, the girls observed the differences in the types of trees and collected pine needles, sticks, acorns, leaves, etc. to bring back to the room to further inspect. In our science center, they sorted what they found and they sorted pictures of evergreens and deciduous trees.
