Ms. Holcomb & Mrs. Childress
Welcoming our new season the girls noticed one of fall's most beloved symbols all around, pumpkins! They made connections with pumpkins to Halloween, decorated door steps, and the flavors that they were tasting. Below you will see some of the ways the girls took this favorite symbol as well as other fall symbols and incorporated them into our learning in all areas.
A trip to the farm
WOAH! This pumpkin is so big and orange!
Recording their findings through observational drawings.
We worked with Mrs. Wesson to open up our class pumpkin and we identified all of the parts of a pumpkin. The girls were able to see the parts, feel the parts, and even smell the pumpkin. Next, the girls worked together to create groups of ten to discover how many pumpkin seeds were inside our pumpkin. The girls would collect ten seeds in their cup and then place their findings in the class collection cup. We kept track of the sets of ten by making tally marks. The grand total ended up being 315 seeds!!
What other cycles can we think of?
