Ms. Holcomb & Mrs. Childress
With a new year many of us take a look at ourselves and make goals, some see how we could make the next year an even better one, and some even see how we can make the world around us a better place. In JK we like to take this time to reflect on the previous semester and celebrate all of the hard work and growth your girls have accomplished. We do this in a few ways.
The first is a self portrait. We revisit our original drawings done in august and create another in January. The girls love to compare and see what details they might have left off or how they were able to create new shapes.
Throughout they year and during our various studies we also are connecting to the world around us. Our season of winter has opened up conversations about cold weather and snow. We have not see much snow this year but it is always something the girls see as magical and beautiful. Within our study of snow we learned that snowflakes are symmetrical and have six points. Another part of our study has taught us that snowflakes are all similar because of their symmetry and six points but they are also each unique in their design. We have been able to connect this to ourselves and our year long discussion on how we are similar and different. This lovely conversation of snowflakes and self was a beautiful and organic connection of the two studies.
Snowflakes are all snowflakes and they are all different AND they are all beautiful.- Phoebe
Finally as we look at the year ahead, the girls sat down and thought about what she would like to learn about or learn more about during 2020. It was fun to see some of their idea that were similar to one another and others that were unique. Excited for all of the learning that will take place.
